The Punjab government intends to acquire 108 cars costing Rs1.14 billion for ministers, bureaucrats, and inspection teams, including bulletproof and security vehicles, pending final permission.
LAHORE (A News) – The Punjab government has agreed to acquire 108 new cars costing Rs1.14 billion for ministers, top officials, and official inspection teams this fiscal year.
According to official sources, the transportation wing has made recommendations to the provincial cabinet on the planned acquisition. The report contains a plan to purchase 28 automobiles for the Punjab cabinet at an estimated cost of Rs300 million.
Cabinet members’ suggested fleet contains one Toyota Land Cruiser, two Haval 1.5 models, five Toyota Corolla Grande Altis, ten Toyota Altis, and ten Toyota Yaris automobiles.
Furthermore, two bulletproof four-by-four trucks costing Rs40 million are suggested for two ministers. The government has previously authorized clearance for the purchase of bulletproof cars on security grounds.
Sources further disclosed that suggestions to purchase 25 cars costing Rs270 million for VIP security had already been accepted.
The Chief Minister’s Inspection Team would get vehicles worth Rs530 million, comprising 30 double-cabin pick-up trucks, 11 Toyota Yaris, and three Toyota Altis sedans.
The inspection fleet will also comprise Suzuki Cultus vehicles and motorbikes.
Officials stated that the procurement procedure will commence once final approval is given. The decision comes despite continuing budgetary management measures, with the provincial government claiming that operational and security considerations demand the acquisition.
