Today marks the 38th anniversary of Waheed Murad’s death.

LAHORE, Pakistan – Today marks the 38th death anniversary of iconic Pakistani cinema actor producer and scriptwriter Waheed Murad (Tuesday).

Waheed Murad was born on October 2, 1938, in Sialkot. Nisar Murad, a wealthy film distributor, raised him as his only kid. He had his primary education at Karachi Grammar School, graduated from S.M. Arts College Karachi, and subsequently earned a master’s degree in English literature from the University of Karachi.

He was well-known for his endearing expressions, appealing demeanour, gentle voice, and remarkable skill for cinema acting. His acting technique made him renowned among South Asia’s youthful cinemagoers.

In 1962, he played a minor part in the film ‘Aulad.’ ‘Heera aur Pathar,’ his debut film as a main actor, is widely regarded as his significant breakthrough.

He appeared in 124 films, 38 of which were in black and white and 86 of which were in colour. He appeared in 115 Urdu films, 8 Punjabi films, and one Pashto film.

He was the recipient of 32 important cinema awards. He received the Nigar Award for best actor in ‘Heera aur Pathar’ in 1964, ‘Armaan’ in 1966, ‘Andaleeb’ in 1969, ‘Mastana Mahi’ in 1971, and Legend Award for lifetime achievement in 2002.

27 years after his death, he was granted the Sitara-e-Imtiaz for significant contributions to literature and the arts in November 2010. He passed away on November 23rd.1983 in Karachi.
