LAHORE – Mohsin Raza Naqvi, the caretaker chief minister (CM) of Punjab, called a team from the Punjab Flour Mills Association to his office on Monday.
The meeting will also include S.M. Tanveer, Mansoor Qadir, Bilal Afzal, and the Secretary of the Food Department.
Earlier, plans had been made to arrest the proprietors of Punjab’s flour mills when the Secretary of Food instructed the Deputy Commissioners of the province’s 36 districts to implement Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Ordinance, beginning in Rawalpindi. Subsequently, the flour millers extended their strike to protest the Punjab food department’s searches to investigate subsidised flour and wheat quota issues.
Because millers in Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan had joined the demonstrations, the administration believed that a dispute with the millers may lead to a flour shortage in the province, which would eventually worsen the situation in the province.
