LAHORE, (APP): Dr. Rizwan Naseer, Secretary of Punjab Emergency Services, has recommended civilians to turn off gas heaters before going to bed to avert fires.
He urged people to contact the 1122 hotline toll-free in the event of an emergency in order to get immediate assistance. He emphasised that only timely calls may assist reduce the loss of lives and property. He also expressed severe worry about the 346 individuals killed in highway accidents.
On Wednesday, he presided over a monthly review meeting of the rescue operations in all districts of Punjab at Rescue Headquarters.
The head of PMC briefed Dr. Rizwan Naseer in detail on the monthly rescue operation. During the month of January 2023, the Punjab Emergency Service (PES) saved 135461 victims while responding to 141729 crises with an average response time of seven minutes throughout Punjab, according to the PMC. In Punjab, the Rescue Service reacted to 31194 traffic accidents, 92755 medical crises, 1937 fire incidents, 2607 criminal events, 29 drowning incidents, 23 building collapses, 664 animal rescues, and 12520 miscellaneous operations out of 141729 total emergencies.
The Provincial Monitoring Cell (PMC) informed the Secretary PES on monthly emergency data on this occasion. He was told that 346 persons perished in 31194 RTCs in Punjab in the previous month.
The bulk of these traffic accidents, 7037 in total, happened in Lahore, killing 28 persons. Similarly, 2305 RTCs occurred in Multan, 2295 in Faisalabad, 1774 in Gujranwala, 1207 in Rawalpindi, and 1108 in Bahawalpur, with the remaining 15468 occurring in 30 districts throughout Punjab.
Similarly, the bulk of the 1937 fire occurrences occurred in Punjab, with 522 occurring in Lahore, 171 in Faisalabad, 128 in Rawalpindi, 92 in Multan, 85 in Gujranwala, 73 in Sialkot, and the remainder 866 occurring in 30 districts. It was also revealed that the most fires occurred due to short circuits, 283 carelessness, 150 gas leakages, 58 candles, 29 cooking fires, and three fire incidents recorded each of LPG cylinders and pyrotechnics, with 251 unknown fire instances. According to the statistics, 21 people died and 191 were wounded in 1937 fires, with the majority of 623 fires recorded in residential areas and 495 in commercial locations. During January 2023, the anticipated loss of Rescue 1122 saved 3759 million.
Following a thorough examination of the emergency statistics, Dr. Rizwan voiced significant worry about the 346 fatalities in 31194 road traffic accidents that occurred in the previous month. He asked motorcycle riders to practise road safety and decrease their speed restriction by up to 30 km/h.
