LAHORE – Due to security concerns, a petition asking for permission for PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s car to enter the court premises was denied on Monday by an administrative judge of the Lahore High Court (LHC).

Shibli Faraz, the leader of the PTI, petitioned for the party chairman to be granted security clearance. Judge Abid Aziz Shaikh delivered the decision. The appeal was made because the former premier, who was injured in an assassination attempt in Wazirabad last year, is under danger.

The appeal was submitted at the same time as the PTI leader was scheduled to appear before a single bench to discuss a protective bail request he made in connection with a demonstration outside the Pakistani Election Commission (ECP).

Once the security clearance appeal was denied, the legal team made the decision to discuss the situation with Imran Khan.

The PTI head is anticipated to appear before a single bench, hence the high court has increased security. According to sources, he will be transported to the LHC in a wheelchair while he is healing from his gunshot wounds.

A similar appeal was denied on Thursday by a two-member bench presided over by Judge Baqar Najfi after the PTI leader failed to show up in court despite being given many opportunities to do so. But, a single bench gave him a second chance to show up on Monday.

Judge Abid Aziz Shaikh also noted at the last hearing that Imran Khan’s signatures on the affidavit and the power of attorney, which were both attached to the bail petition, differed. The court said that the situation was serious and that the petition or the solicitor may get a notice of contempt.

Judge Shaikh said that the applicant should appear in person to record the statement when Mr. Khan’s solicitor claimed the PTI leader owned his signatures. Then, the court postponed the hearing until February 20.
