Today marks the 60th day of the large-scale police operation against seasoned criminals and terrorists in the Katcha region, and authorities continue to tout their successes.

A Punjab Police spokeswoman reported that in the previous two months, 51 bandits had been captured, 26 had surrendered, and more than eight had been injured.

He said that while battling the robbers, policeman Muhammad Qasim was slain and three other authorities were hurt. In the course of the operation, some 60,000 acres of land deemed a no-go area were cleared. In the regions the police cleared, he continued, three police community schools and two dispensaries had already been built.
