Pakistan has released 198 Indian fishermen who were imprisoned for illegally fishing in Pakistani waters on humanitarian grounds.

According to the Foreign Office, the liberated fishermen were handed over to Indian officials at the Wagah border crossing in Lahore.

On Thursday evening, the fishermen were released from Karachi’s Malir Jail and taken by train to Lahore.

The first batch of Indian fishermen criminals was released, according to Malir Jail Superintendent Nazir Tunio, and more would be released in June and July.

On Thursday, Pakistan was ready to release 200 Indian fishermen from Malir jail, but two of them died of illness.
