MULTAN: Shakeel Qadir, additional secretary for the power division, stated on Friday that it was the customers’ obligation to send electricity bills in accordance with their metre readings.
Although MEPCO’s mobile metre reading percentage was better than that of other power providers, more work has to be done to entirely stop overbilling and overreading.
He was speaking to an online gathering to discuss the first quarter of the current fiscal year 2022–2023’s performance.
In the first quarter, MEPCO lowered the line losses ratio by 2%, which had a favourable effect.
He gave officials the order to reclaim all outstanding debts and monthly power payments from defaulters.
The Ministry of Energy will punish personnel harshly if they fall short of their goals.
He praised MEPCO’s performance from July to September as being superior to that of other businesses and gave the Chief Executive Officer of MEPCO Engineer Mahar Allah Yar Bharwana strict instructions to continue working hard to raise the bar.
The completion date for projects for line losses, recovery, replacement of all damaged and burned metres, reduction of losses in high loss feeders, and capacity expansion of the distribution system has been established as January 31, 2023.
In a briefing on the first quarter’s performance, the CEO of MEPCO stated that Bahawalnagar Circle, Cantt Division Multan, and Gujarat Subdivision Muzaffargarh had outperformed the rest of the MEPCO region in terms of line losses, recovery, recovery of dues/arrears, operation against power thieves, and upgrading of transformers and lines.
After the deadline, he declared, “Departmental action would be taken against the officials for unsatisfactory performance.” According to Mr. Bharwana, “The distribution system faults throughout the region have been fixed, and the summer power supply will be delivered with greater voltage.” Other executives were Finance Director Mian Ansar Mehmood, DG HR & Admin Liaqat Ali Memon, General Manager Operation MEPCO Nasir Ayaz Gurmani, General Manager Customer Services Jam Gul Muhammad Zahid, General Manager Technical Zafar Iqbal Gill, and others.
