KARACHI – Rana Sanaullah, the federal minister of interior, stated on Saturday that PTI Chairman Imran Khan had not made any offers for discussions, but the coalition government was open to talking with him without restrictions.
After testifying before a drug court, the PML-N leader spoke to the media and claimed that although false accusations had been made against members of his party, the courts were now delivering justice by throwing out the false accusations. He claimed Imran Khan has been harming the nation and extorting money from the government for the last seven months merely to stroke his ego.
According to Mr. Sanaullah, the PML-N leaders have asked Nawaz Sharif to lead the party in Pakistan once again before the subsequent general election. The three-time prime minister agreed to the request and declared that he will soon be in the crowd. Regarding the economy, the PML-N leader claimed that while the government was doing all possible to avert default, the opposition had ‘politicised’ the matter.
Rana Sanaullah entered an acquittal plea earlier in the day in the drug trafficking case the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) had launched against him in 2019. The minister presented the plea when he appeared before a special drugs court in Lahore, claiming that the charges against him were brought on a political grounds.
The PML-N leader pleaded with the court to drop the accusations against him, alluding to PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry’s claim that the case against Mr. Sanaullah was made up. In a talk show interview in July of last year, Mr. Chaudhry acknowledged that the drug smuggling case against the top PML-N official was false and shouldn’t have been filed. The ANF Lahore squad detained Mr. Sanaullah on July 1, 2019, while he was driving from Faisalabad to Lahore close to the Ravi Toll Plaza. Sanaullah said that 15kg of heroin had been found in his car.
In accordance with sections 15, 17, and 9C of the Control of Narcotic Substances Act (CNSA) 1997 as well as sections 186, 189, and 353 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), a FIR was filed against him.
